Can any type of fuel be used with the Boilex™ Pyramid stoves?
No. The Boilex™ Pyramid stove is designed specifically to optimise the performance of Zip™ Cooking Fuel.
Why should I use the Boilex™ Pyramid stove?
It’s the perfect affordable pocket stove for individual/personal cooking. Lightweight, flat packed (simply folds out into the stove) and easy to carry, it is designed to work with Zip™ Cooking Fuel, which is based on a natural, sustainable biodiesel.
How heavy are the stoves?
The Boilex™ Pyramid stove weighs c50g.
How much water can I boil?
Designed for individual cooking, the strong durable structure of the Boilex™ Pyramid stove enables it to hold cups/small pots/mess tins. When used with a Boilex™ Pyramid stove, one cube of Zip™ Cooking Fuel will boil 500ml of water in c10 minutes.
Are the stoves heat resistant?
Yes. But the Boilex™ Pyramid stove should be allowed to cool for 3-4 minutes after use prior to handling.
How long after cooking can you pack them away?
The Boilex™ Pyramid stove should be allowed 3 to 4 minutes to cool after use prior to being stowed away.
How do you transport them?
The Boilex™ Pyramid stove is flat packed and easy to carry in a pocket or pouch.
Do they come in a case?
No. The Boilex™ Pyramid stove is delivered with the fuel cubes; a carry case should be purchased separately.
What size are they?
The Boilex™ Pyramid stove is 80mmx120mmx15mmwhen folded for storage and 80mmx120mmx4mm when folded flat, 80mmx120mmx80mm when assembled.
How much fuel do you have to use?
It varies depending on power required and climatic conditions. Using one fuel cube the stove is designed to boil a cup(preferably with a lid), of 500ml of water in c10 to 11 minutes at temperate ambient conditions. In colder conditions, or when no lid is used with the cup, this may increase by a minute or two and more fuel cubes may be needed.
What type of metal pot / pan can you use?
Any small metal pots and pans can be used.
Can I use the stove indoors?
Ideally no, due to the production of exhaust gases. The stove and fuel should only be used outdoors. The stove can be used for indoor cooking, provided there is adequate ventilation, which means with a ventilation system that carries all fumes and exhaust gases outdoors.
Can I use the stoves inside my tent?
No, it should not be used in an enclosed space. There must be adequate ventilation to carry away the fumes and exhaust gases outdoors.
How long does the stove take to assemble?
The Boilex™ Pyramid stove is delivered flat packed and simply folds out into the stove. Just pull out the stove along the hinges or folds and fold around to make the Pyramid shape and hook one end into the other. Then place on a flat surface, ensuring any gaps to the ground are sealed with earth or sand to optimise performance. In all, stove assembly should take less than 10 seconds!
What is the ideal format of the Zip™ Cooking Fuel for this stove, and how long should it last?
The Boilex™ Pyramid stove will work best with the 26g Zip™ Cooking Fuel wrapped cubes, which should last about 18-20 minutes and be sufficient to boil 500ml of water in around 10 minutes.
How long does the cooking fuel last for?
Each wrapped cube burns for 18-20 minutes.
Can you put the stoves on any surfaces?
The Boilex™ Pyramid stove should be placed on a flat, heat resistant surface or on the ground.

How do I clean the stoves?
If still on exercise/in theatre/travelling, the stoves can simply be brushed on the grass to remove any loose combustion deposits. If conditions allow, the stoves can be cleaned more thoroughly with a damp cloth or with soapy water.
How do I dispose of the stoves?
The Boilex™ Pyramid stoves can be disposed of in any designated metal recycling station, but is safe to dispose of in general trash. If in a combat scenario - bury in a hole in the ground, cover with soil and it will safely biodegrade over time.

How many uses do the stoves have before I have to get a replacement?
The Boilex™ Pyramid stove is guaranteed for a minimum of 25 uses (but should last significantly longer if used correctly).
How long does it take to boil a cup of water?
The Boilex ™ Pyramid stove will boil a 500ml cup of water with one fuel cube in approximately 10 minutes (when the cup is used with a lid).
Are there any sharp edges that could puncture plastic or material?
No. All edges are rounded for safe handling but the user should always be careful no sharp edges have arisen from damage.
When can I use them?
For outdoor cooking, in most climatic conditions, including desert, arctic and mountains. Indoor cooking as possible with adequate ventilation to carry exhaust gases and fumes outdoors. Ideally it should not be used indoors.
What is the maximum saucepan / pot weight?
The Boilex ™ Pyramid stove can hold up to 10kg in weight, so extremely strong. In use, it will perform best with small pots/pans/cups/mess tins of less than 2kg.
Are they safe for children to use unsupervised?
We do not recommend any children or pets are left unsupervised in the presence of a lit stove.
How much ventilation is required if I use it indoors?
The stove may only be used indoors if there is an adequate ventilation system to carry exhaust gases and fumes outdoors.
Do they come in different colours?
No, the stove is the colour of its raw material, Aluminium.
Can they be used at high altitude?
Yes. The Boilex ™ Pyramid stoves are designed to work at high altitude with Zip™ Cooking Fuel, but more than one fuel cube may be required to bring the fuel to boil due to the lack of oxygen and the cold air temperature.
Will the stoves go rusty in damp conditions?
No. They are made of Aluminium and do not rust.
Will the stoves erode in artic temperatures?

How stable is the stove?
The Boilex ™ Pyramid stove has a solid square base to ensure stability.
Will the stove fall over easily?
No, the Boilex ™ Pyramid stove is stable as a result of the square shape to the base.

How many people can I cook for?
This depends on the size of the pots and the time available. The Boilex™ Pyramid stoveis designed to boil a cup of 500ml of water in c10mins (with the lid).
Do the stoves come with cups or pots?
No, we only make Boilex ™ stoves and Zip™ Cooking Fuel/ignition products. Cups and pots should be purchased separately.
Do I need any other equipment to use them?
Pots and pans for cooking, and the required utensils. A lighter or matches for lighting the fuel.
Do the stoves come with instructions for how to use and assembly?
Yes, full instructions are available on the packaging and can be found on the product page of this website.
Are there a list of ‘don’ts’ when using the stoves or cooking fuel?
Store all fuel out of the reach of children and pets. Don’t leave the stove unattended when in use. Never use in an enclosed space that does not allow exhaust gases and fumes to escape outdoors. Always use outdoors or with an adequate ventilation system that carries fumes outdoors. Keep on a stable surface from which it cannot fall. Please adhere to the warnings on all packaging.
